The Decontamination Supervisor for the Sterile Services Department (SSD) role is to ensure the smooth running of the unit reprocessing surgical instrument / flexible scopes and provide cross cover for Decontamination Supervisor for Endoscopy decontamination services. The decontamination supervisor answers directly to the Deputy Decontamination manager and in turn to the decontamination manager.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Reports to the Deputy Decontamination Manager.
Demonstrate Professional Leadership at all times.
Be responsible for the delivery of SSD services when on duty.
Participate in teams / meetings / committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members (Eg Hygiene, Theatre user group, Decontamination working Group).
Assist in the co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across healthcare teams and programmes regarding sterile services.
Assist in the provision of reports of all testing, assessments and support recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
Ensure that all staff are treated with dignity and respect.
Ensure accurate record keeping in accordance with Beaumont Hospital Policy.
Ensure all decontamination testing is carried out.
Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
In consultation with the Deputy Decontamination Manager, relevant staff and other disciplines, support implementation and assess quality management programme changes.
Participate in audits as required by the Hospital (Eg Decontamination, Traceability and Hand Hygiene).
Support systems to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based approach to the reprocessing and traceability of surgical instruments.
